Causes of Thinning Natural Hair

Causes of Thinning Natural Hair

Shedding is a normal part of our hair journey, however significant shedding which results in thinning hair is not. Your hair could be thinning due to several reasons including stress, diet, hormonal imbalance, and so much more! This is where we have to exercise a bit of self-care to put a stop to thinning natural hair. As someone who suffered from hair loss & hair thinning issues, I’ve learned a thing or two along the way that will help return your curly crown to its full, luxurious state. Check out my personal growth tips below!

Let’s dive into each one:

Diet: Your diet is an important factor to consider when it comes to the health of your natural hair. A clean diet will translate to stronger, better quality hair growth because your body will receive the proper nutrient content required to synthesize our hair’s structural protein, keratin. A lack of the right nutrients including vitamins A, C, D and E, zinc, B vitamins, iron, biotin, protein and essential fatty acids may slow down hair growth or even cause hair loss. Fortunately, correcting a deficiency in any of these nutrients may help treat hair loss and promote the rate of hair growth. Your diet should consist of fruits, vegetables, protein and lots of water.

Growth Stimulating Oils: Incorporating hair growth oils in your curl care regimen can lead to some pretty amazing results -I speak from personal experience. The Dominican Forbidden Oil  was formulated to help promote healthy hair growth using ingredients backed by scientific research and traditional Dominican hair growth methods. Our proprietary oil blend contains fatty acid rich castor oil, stimulating coffee seed oil, antioxidant rich rosemary extract and the all-powerful black cumin seed oil. This “dream team” works in unison to nourish and invigorate the scalp and creates an optimal scalp environment for growth.

Scalp Massages: Consistency is key with this one. Your body recovers as you sleep and nightly scalp massages induces a more robust blood flow which leads to improvement in the condition of your hair. Apply Bomba Curls’ oil to your scalp and massage it using a scalp massager or your fingertips, working your way from the nape of your neck to your edges-unless you’re spot treating at which point you can apply a small dab of oil to your problem area(s). Massaging helps to promote blood flow which increases the supply of nutrient rich blood to your follicular bulbs. Healthier bulbs produce stronger, healthier hair.

Avoid Tight Styles: Tight styles and over manipulation of your natural hair and edges puts unnecessary tension on your follicles which can lead to thinning hair over time. are one of the main causes of thinning hair so it’s important to practice caution. Buns, braids and wigs can damage your follicles so whether you do your own hair or have someone else style it for you be EXTREMELY careful with putting unnecessary stress on your tresses. Traction alopecia is a very real issue and avoiding tight hairstyles will allow you to avoid this threat and help your curls to flourish.

Having thinning hair can affect your self-esteem because our hair is our crown. Consider these points and sound off in the comments on how these tips work for you.
